The Thing

The rogue scuttler is a creature variant that was intended for inclusion in The Thing II, a planned sequel to the 2002 video game The Thing. However, it was ultimately scrapped after developer Computer Artworks entered receivership in October 2003[1]. Although cancelled, pre-production art guides were released, revealing the developers' vision for the game. This creature bears a striking resemblance to the Head Spider

Background[]

According to the art guide description, the creature was intended to have similar attributes to the athletic scuttler found in the original The Thing game (2002). It is quick-paced and can leap up to five meters from a running start. What sets the creature apart from its predecessor is its ability to scale walls and ceilings; climbing up a surface or leaping to it from the ground. Not utilizing the technically demanding 'burst out' system, the monster was designed as cheap 'cannon fodder' for the player.
