The Thing

Hawk (also known as "Hawke" in some files) is an unused character from the 2002 video-game The Thing. His voice files can be found by heading to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Computer Artworks\The Thing\data" folder and opening the "english.pak" file with WinRar, Winzip or 7-Zip.

Like all the other NPCs the player can team up with (except for Parnevik, Stanmore and Guy) he has complete voice files for all the actions NPCs can undertake, including orders, combat taunts, groans of pain, comments on the environment, fear, trust and infection quotes, etc.

Aside from his normal NPC quotes, he has a specific scripted dialogue when encountered which goes as follows:

"Dr. Faraday is trapped in Chamber 9. Hobson and myself have DNA scan access, we need to get to Chamber 9!"

He would've apparently been featured in the same area as Hobson.

Trivia

  • Judging by his dialogue, it is possible that he could have originally been the Unnamed Medic, as he talks about rescuing Dr. Faraday in the Pyron Submersible Facility.
  • He would have been presumably necessary for the player to recruit, judging by his dialogue: he would have had the DNA scan code to grant access to the testing chambers in order to rescue Dr. Faraday, but this idea seems to have been scrapped.
  • It is unknown why he was cut from the game.
  • Alongside Hobson and Ryder, he's one of the few known cut characters from the game, whose files remain in the game's folders.
