The Mutated dog was the first Thing creature that was encountered by the crew of the U.S. Outpost 31 during the winter of 1982.
History
The Thing (now assimilated as an Alaskan Malamute) attempts to escape from the Norwegian Outpost, it was being pursued by two survivors from the outpost who are determined to kill it. It eventually reached a nearby American research station, the pilot was killed when he accidentally dropped a grenade while the passenger was killed by Garry thinking that he was hostile, with its pursuers dead its true identity remains a secret and the crew decided to adopt it. During the night, Bennings requested Clark, the station's dog-handler to put the dog in the kennel with the rest of the station's sled dogs, it the mutates and begins to assimilate the sled dogs. The noise caused by the Thing was heard by R.J. MacReady, who wakes everyone up and heads to the kennel, there they discover the hideous monstrosity starting to digest the dogs, they attempt to kill it with bullets to no avail, it eventually grew two arms and escaped, while the rest of the creature was incinerated by Childs using a flamethrower.
